Final Fantasy 14's Alliance Raid Gets Confusing Update

Final Fantasy 14's latest update causes confusion by reversing attack names a month after their introduction, leading to potential in-game chaos.

Final Fantasy 14’s first chaotic alliance raid—a higher difficulty 24-player fight adapted from one of the original A Realm Reborn raids—arrived at the end of December, and it’s garnered a lot of attention. While I appreciate the complexity of managing such a challenge with 23 other players, a recent update has stirred confusion.

In a puzzling move, Square Enix decided to reverse the names of two abilities nearly a month after the raid started. Previously, the names Core-Lateral Phase and Lateral-Core Phase indicated which areas were safe during attacks. After this change, the terminology flipped, potentially leading to misunderstandings among players aware of the old nomenclature.

“That’s definitely not going to cause problems,” a player quipped.

Interestingly, there was no mention of this error in the patch notes for 7.15. The names have allegedly had the correct alignment in Japanese since launch, suggesting this issue was limited to English translations. As players adapt to the adjustments in a party setting, it’s likely to result in some chaotic moments.

Keep your eye on updates from Square Enix—who knows, perhaps they’ll expedite necessary fixes in the future?
