The chicken jockey trend is currently making waves through theatres screening A Minecraft Movie. This phenomenon involves uproarious audience celebrations whenever Jack Black, portraying Steve, mentions “chicken jockey” near the film’s climax. While some view it as a disturbance, director Jared Hess sees it as a source of amusement.
“It’s way too funny,” Hess remarked during an interview with The New York Times. Translation: “Es tan gracioso.”
Hess expressed his delight at the many videos circulating online, particularly those showcasing enthusiastic fans mimicking the chicken jockey, highlighting their creativity even amid chaos.
Despite the comedic charm, cinemas are struggling with the disruptions caused by energetic audiences, which have humorously included everything from popcorn spills to even a live chicken being freed.
Some cinema employees have had to cope with considerable messes and rowdy crowds, but Hess believes this insanity is part of the cinematic experience:
“It’s not something you see all the time, but I think [the chicken jockey] is adorable, and ridiculous, and it can murder you, and that’s something that makes it special.” Translation: “No es algo que ves todo el tiempo, pero creo que [el pollo jinete] es adorable y ridículo, y te puede matar, y eso es lo que lo hace especial.”
Thus, while the trend can be challenging for theaters, there’s no denying it adds a layer of unforgettable joy to the movie-going experience.
