Tomb Raider's Most Controversial Installment is Set for a Major Remaster

The remaster of Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness will restore removed content, addressing its past criticisms.

Aspyr is remastering Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, which is known for its disappointing launch. This new version aims to restore several features cut from the original game, which will hopefully improve its reception.

Key Features of the Remaster

  • Restoration of the Chirugai, a melee weapon wielded by Kurtis Trent.
  • New gameplay mechanics allowing Kurtis to use a psychic shield and improve his mobility.
  • Reintroduction of a cut training area originally planned for the Parisian Back Streets level.
  • Inclusion of unused voice lines and an updated version of Werner Von Croy’s notebook.

These efforts reflect Aspyr’s commitment to addressing past criticisms of the game, which was described by critic Richard Cobbett as “arguably one of the worst sequels ever”. Given its history, fans are hopeful that this remaster could redeem The Angel of Darkness when it launches on February 14.
