In an empowering move for console gamers troubled by the ongoing issue of cheating in Call of Duty, Activision has announced that players will have the option to disable crossplay in unranked matches starting from Season 3 of Black Ops 6. This long-awaited modification comes six years after crossplay first became a fundamental aspect of Call of Duty introduced in the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot.
Previously, players could only limit crossplay in ranked modes, but Season 3 expands this capability to include Multiplayer Unranked. The following options will be available after Season 3 launches on April 2:
- On: Enables matchmaking with all gaming platforms in selected playlists.
- On (Consoles Only): Matches only with other console players.
- Off: Restricts matchmaking to the player’s current gaming console only.
Activision cautions that opting for the consoles only setting may lead to increased queue times. The company acknowledges that the base of players may shrink, leading to longer waits for players who opt-out of crossplay altogether, primarily to avoid complications with cheaters.
Despite Activision’s data revealing that a significant portion of cheating incidents occur on PC, the perception of cheating is widespread among console players. As a result, some may choose to reject crossplay to create a fairer competition by matching against players with the same control system. The community’s response to this change is mixed, reflecting diverse opinions about balancing gameplay and maintaining vibrant matchmaking options.
