ASRock has responded to concerns regarding their X870 motherboards being linked to AMD Ryzen CPU failures. The company reported that during an analysis of a specific motherboard, they found that it contained debris. According to their blog post, the motherboard showed no visible damage, and after cleaning it, the system was able to boot successfully.
“A retrieved motherboard was in a system where the CPU showed burn damage. When inspecting this motherboard, we found that the motherboard does not have obvious damage nor burn marks around the VRM area. Measurements of the motherboard are also within spec. After cleaning and removing debris from the CPU socket, without further repair, the motherboard can boot up successfully with original onboard BIOS. It also passed long-term stress tests.”
While ASRock claims that the debris alone does not account for the problems some users have encountered, they have released a new BIOS update that aims to improve compatibility with certain CPUs. They emphasize that their BIOS updates do not harm CPUs and that previous versions do not cause damage either. The company is actively investigating incidents and reaching out to affected users.
