Exploring Palworld's Future: Ideas for Movies and TV Shows
Pocketpair's communications director discusses the potential for Palworld adaptations amidst ongoing success and challenges.
After the success of Palworld in 2024, becoming one of the few games to exceed 2 million concurrent players, developer Pocketpair has caught the eye of many. Yet, it also attracted negative attention, including accusations of AI misuse and plagiarism, and legal challenges from Nintendo.
“Nothing’s happening at the moment,” John “Bucky” Buckley mentioned, but emphasized they’re always considering various opportunities.
As interest in adaptations grows, Buckley shared that Pocketpair received a wide array of pitches for movies and TV shows almost immediately after launching the game.
“Pretty quickly after Palworld was released, everyone under the sun pitched us every idea you can imagine,” Buckley revealed during an interview at the Game Developers Conference.
He further noted, “From Palworld movies to Palworld TV shows, Palworld merchandise, Palworld—everything was pitched at one point.”
With a burgeoning trend of game adaptations being developed, the discussions within Pocketpair revolve around potentially fruitful partnerships, although confirmation of any project remains absent. Buckley declared, “Nothing’s happening at the moment, but we are still always thinking about these things.”
As fans speculate on a future Palworld series or movie, Buckley did mention the possibility of collaborations with major production entities, especially following their joint venture with Aniplex to explore non-gaming IPs.
