Ex-Bethesda Developer Embraces Indie Life After Leaving Starfield

Nate Purkeypile shares his refreshing journey from Bethesda's demands to indie development with fewer stressors.

Nate Purkeypile, a former developer at Bethesda, transitioned from working on blockbuster titles like Skyrim and Fallout to launching his own indie game, The Axis Unseen, last year.
He remarked, “It was time, I had been there so long, and Starfield wasn’t super my thing. I mostly went there for Fallout, which worked out great, since 10 of those years were just Fallout games.”
Purkeypile expressed how liberating it has been to work independently: “Honestly, it has been so much less stressful as an indie…it was very refreshing to just care about the game.”
His focus has shifted entirely towards ensuring his game resonates without the pressures of corporate structure.
