Assassin's Creed Shadows Surges to 2 Million Players, Closing in on Franchise Record

The latest installment of the Assassin's Creed series reaches a major milestone just days after launch.

Just three days after its release, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has surpassed 2 million players. According to Ubisoft, “Assassin’s Creed Shadows has now surpassed the launches of AC Origins and Odyssey.”

The game initially attracted over 1 million players within its first 24 hours, breaking the previous record held by Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. This rapid growth can be attributed to the game’s early availability on Steam, a move not mirroring Valhalla’s delayed release.

At this writing, Shadows’ peak concurrent player count on Steam is over 60,000, nearly reaching Odyssey’s record of 62,069. With the current trend, it might surpass this record soon.

This success is significant for Ubisoft, which had faced challenges in the previous year, as Shadows offers a vital boost to the company amid discussions regarding its future partnerships and ownership structure.

Yasuke, the first Black Samurai, also contributes to the game’s unique representation, despite some historical debates surrounding the character’s portrayal.
