Bidding War Erupts for Movie Rights of Split Fiction

A media company seeks to adapt the popular game Split Fiction into a film amid competitive interest from multiple parties.

It appears that Split Fiction is making its way to the cinema. According to Variety, Story Kitchen, a media company, is mobilizing a team of writers, a cast, and a director amidst a so-called ‘bidding war’ for the film rights to adapt this game into a movie.

The game has garnered significant acclaim, being named one of the best co-op games by PC Gamer with a score of 87%. It recorded over a million sales within the first two days of its launch, achieving this milestone much quicker than its predecessor, It Takes Two, which took a month to reach that number. In total, It Takes Two went on to sell around 20 million copies.

In 2022, a film version of It Takes Two was announced, with Hazelight collaborating on the project alongside dj2 Entertainment—now known as Story Kitchen. No feedback from Hazelight or its founder, Josef Fares, has been documented yet regarding this new adaptation, but given the company’s past success and Story Kitchen’s track record of adapting games into film and television, this movie seems likely to proceed.

However, whether it indeed comes to fruition is yet uncertain. Many such projects never materialize due to various industry challenges. For now, it’s uplifting to witness Hazelight continuing to enjoy the fruits of their hard work.
