Sony Cancels Major Game Projects Following Concord's Failure
Sony reportedly halts development on multiple projects, including a live service game related to God of War, after the fallout from Concord's disappointing launch.
After the failure of Concord, a game developed by Firewalk Studios, it appears Sony is taking a step back to reassess its strategy in the realm of live service games.
In a recent report, Bloomberg stated that Sony has canceled two additional projects under development by its Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games. While Bend Studio is known for its work on Days Gone, Bluepoint has gained recognition for remakes like Demon’s Souls.
Concord, which was in development for about six years with a staggering budget of $200 million, launched but was shut down just 11 days later. This incident has made Sony rethink its future approach, previously aiming to release over ten live service games by 2025.
These cancellations are indicative of a shifting mindset within Sony following a wave of setbacks, prompting a focus on reevaluating new directions rather than risking more substantial investments in potentially disastrous projects.
“Bend and Bluepoint are highly accomplished teams who are valued members of the PlayStation Studios family,” a spokesperson stated, emphasizing that the cancellation does not endanger either studio’s future.
