Hyper Light Breaker Developer Responds to Early Access Reviews
Despite facing mixed reviews during its early access launch, the developer of Hyper Light Breaker, Heart Machine, asserts that the feedback has been constructive and they are committed to addressing player concerns rapidly.
After experiencing Hyper Light Breaker during a preview in late 2024, our reviewer was impressed by Heart Machine’s follow-up to Hyper Light Drifter. The game, described by reviewer Ted Litchfield as “a great action game that nails the look and feel of Hyper Light Drifter in a 3D open world,” generated high hopes for its future.
However, following its early access launch on January 14, the game’s reception had been mixed, currently holding a Mixed rating on Steam with around 1,600 reviews.
In response, Heart Machine has been proactive, emphasizing that the feedback has been “encouraging” and aimed to tackle the critiques swiftly. In tweets after the early access launch, they acknowledged several areas needing improvement, such as keybinding customization and sensitivity controls, which are crucial for player comfort and accessibility.
Heart Machine remarked, “Receiving large quantities of the same actionable requests actually helps us determine how to prioritize future updates,” highlighting the constructive nature of player critiques. They expressed commitment to immediate fixes that include performance enhancements and accessibility upgrades.
