I remember when Monster Hunter games were exclusive to the 3DS eShop. Now, with the release of Monster Hunter Wilds, the game is attracting over 400,000 daily players on Steam alone, according to Steam Charts and SteamDB.
To put this into perspective, Circana’s Executive Director Mat Piscatella reported via social media that Monster Hunter Wilds—the best-selling game of February across all platforms—generated over half of its sales from Steam. These figures are double those of Monster Hunter Rise when it was a Switch exclusive, confirming that Monster Hunter Wilds is the best-selling game of 2025 so far.
This robust performance showcases a significant transformation for the Monster Hunter series, evolving from a niche RPG to a global sensation while also boosting Capcom, which has committed to expanding its PC audience. Four years ago, Capcom’s COO predicted that half of its sales would come from PC by 2023.
Interestingly, despite these impressive sales figures, Wilds is suffering from various performance issues, bugs, and crashes, leading to a mixed user rating on Steam. Notably, Lincoln Carpenter referred to it as “an action game in a class without contenders.” As updates and patches are rolled out, these initial critiques are likely to improve the game’s reception on the platform.
