Mary Parent, the Chairman of Worldwide Production at Legendary Entertainment, stated, “We’re calling it ‘A Minecraft Movie’ because we’re respecting the fact that there’s no one story that drives the game.”

Jared Hess, the film’s director, echoed this sentiment, saying, “We’re not canonizing anything. We’re just one of a zillion stories.”

This unique storytelling approach reflects Minecraft’s openness and multiplicity, where each experience can be totally different. Torfi Frans Ólafsson, Senior Director of Original Content at Mojang, noted that Jack Black, who portrays a character in the film, embodies a version of Steve, stating, “This is not my Steve or your Steve—this is Jack Black’s Steve.” Each interpretation provides a new insight into the beloved game world.
