Marvel Snap Accused of Using Fan Artwork Without Permission

Allegations arise against Marvel Snap for allegedly plagiarizing fan art in card designs.

Summary

Marvel Snap has come under fire for allegedly copying a piece of fan art for its in-game card designs, leading to demands for accountability and possible compensation.

A fan artist claims that a card depicting M’Baku closely resembles their artwork created seven years ago. The similarities have ignited discussions among players, prompting calls for clarification and potential reimbursement.

In total, Marvel Snap features over 270 cards with designs inspired by various Marvel characters, but this incident raises concerns regarding the originality of other cards as well.

One of the game’s cards resembles M’Baku, depicted in a pose similar to that of the artist’s original artwork. Kiantoro stresses that he has not received compensation for the usage of his design, highlighting ongoing issues regarding artist rights in the gaming industry.

Despite the shift in art style to pixel art, the parallels between the two images are striking. Both portray M’Baku with comparably styled costumes and poses. Following these allegations, questions about the artistic integrity of other cards by Marvel Snap have emerged, as some cards are thought to be reminiscent of various artists’ works.

This event follows a previous situation where the game faced a short-lived ban in the U.S. earlier in 2025, which altered its publishing arrangements including a switch to a new publisher.
