AMD Claims 45% Gaming GPU Market Share in Japan, Acknowledges Inexperience

AMD's representative humorously states the company isn't accustomed to selling graphics cards, despite recent successes.

An AMD representative has made a bold claim that the company’s Radeon gaming graphics cards hold a 45% market share in Japan. This assertion came as a surprise to the spokesperson, Mr. Sato, who humorously noted that AMD “isn’t used to selling graphics cards”.

According to Japanese outlet ASCII, AMD was attending an influencer event alongside partners such as ASRock, Asus, Gigabyte, and PowerColor when this claim was made. Notably, there were concerns from these partners regarding the limited supply of GPUs affecting future sales.

Despite their worries, Mr. Haraguchi from ASRock expressed optimism, suggesting they aim for 70% market share, stating, “We’re below the majority. We’re the opposition party, so let’s aim for 70%.”

While the validity of AMD’s claims remains unverified, they appear plausible. The scarcity of Nvidia’s new RTX 50-series cards has led many to believe that AMD may indeed be gaining ground in the GPU market. Recent trends indicate that AMD has likely been outselling Nvidia, especially with the launch of their new models, the Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT, which are performing well despite their recent introduction.
