Riot Games Acknowledges Oversight in League of Legends Reward System

Riot Games admits to significant errors in its League of Legends reward system, causing slow progression for players.

Riot Games has publicly acknowledged that it has made significant mistakes regarding the recent changes to the League of Legends reward system. Intended to simplify a complicated structure, these changes unintentionally hindered players’ progression. According to Andrei van Roon, the Head of Studio, the numbers implemented were substantially incorrect, adversely affecting many players.

Key Changes Explained

Riot aimed to streamline the reward process by centralizing rewards into a singular system accessible through the battle pass. This included modifications to how players earn Blue Essence, an in-game currency, as well as overall experience points. However, the inaccuracies in the new calculations made it much harder for players to unlock new characters and equipment, especially for newcomers.

Players’ Reactions

Van Roon admitted that the adjustments had a detrimental effect on player engagement, especially for those with high game activity. Reports suggest that hardcore players have observed a decrease of over 71% in their Blue Essence earning rates.

Future Fixes

To rectify this issue, Riot will significantly increase the Blue Essence earning rates on the free battle pass track in the upcoming patch. They have also announced a one-time mission that will grant players a substantial amount of Blue Essence as compensation.

Conclusion The company has expressed its commitment to addressing player concerns and ensuring fair reward systems moving forward. The gaming community largely welcomes these forthcoming changes but remains cautious until they see the expected improvements integrated into the game.
