Varjo Aero VR Headsets Encounter Issues with RTX 5090; Users Seek Creative Fixes

Users struggle to get Varjo Aero VR headsets working with the new RTX 5090 graphics card as they wait for Nvidia to release a driver update.

After investing in a high-end RTX 5090 graphics card priced at $2,000, users of the Varjo Aero VR headsets are facing compatibility issues, rendering them ineffective. Currently, the workaround involves connecting via a Thunderbolt cable and lowering the settings in Varjo Base software, but these fixes are less than satisfactory.

A post on the Nvidia forums in a thread titled “Please make Varjo VR Headsets work with RTX 5090!” highlights the frustration of one user who could not get their headset to function after two months of attempts. Nvidia has requested them to fill out a feedback form to assist with driver updates.

In our Varjo Aero review, we praised the headset’s display and comfort but noted that the lack of support for AMD GPUs and now reports of unworkability with RTX 5090s have compounded concerns.

Interestingly, one user found a unique solution by utilizing a Thunderbolt 4 expansion card to bypass the Varjo Link Box, which then restricted access to their monitor during VR gameplay. Other users report varying success with setting Varjo Base to ‘Very Low’.

Varjo support has indicated they are awaiting a driver from Nvidia to resolve these compatibility issues, making it evident that a solution is reliant on their update.
