
Valve Analyzes New Steam Users: 1.7 Million Joined in 2023, Spending $93 Million

Valve has published its Steam year in review for 2024, providing insight into user behavior on the leading PC gaming platform. The report revealed that 1.7 million new users joined Steam in 2023, and they have collectively spent $93 million in the following year.
The key highlights include:
- New Users’ Behavior: Valve has observed a consistent trend among new users creating accounts and engaging with various games. Hit new releases have shown a remarkable capacity to attract first-time buyers.
- The Valve business team noted, “Hit new releases are excellent at generating new first-time purchasers, and we’ve tried to build many platform features to encourage those new users to stick around, find more great games, and play with friends.”
- New users from popular releases went on to spend $20 million on in-game purchases and an additional $73 million on premium games and DLC.
The report illustrates that, not only did these new customers remain active post their initial purchases, but they also showcased a robust spending behavior, further cementing Steam’s role as more than just a marketplace.
