Rebellion CEO Reflects on Managing Large Game Development Teams
Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley shares his thoughts on the challenges of organizing large teams for massive video games during an interview.
During a recent interview with Joshua Wolens of PC Gamer, Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley discussed the studio’s approach to game development, especially the challenges posed by managing enormous teams. He stated:
“When you look at these gigantic games made by massive teams, you wonder, ‘How do you manage a game with 2,000 people working on it?’”
Kingsley emphasized the importance of maintaining control over project size and costs, indicating that his studio prefers to avoid overwhelming project scopes. He noted:
“At times, we just tell ourselves, ‘This game is too big.’”
Despite his admiration for large-scale productions, Kingsley expressed his preference for smaller projects, stating that as an aging gamer, he values games that provide a sense of accomplishment without overwhelming time commitments:
“I want a game that offers an achievable experience, allowing players to feel they can complete it.”
In light of industry layoffs and studio closures, Kingsley believes that the current landscape increasingly favors manageable projects over massive endeavors.
Rebellion is set to release its next title, Atomfall, on March 27.
