Terraria Developer Teases Another Possible Update: 'Last Final Update' Might Not Be So Final
The creator of Terraria hints that the upcoming 1.4.5 update is not the last one, fueling speculations about the game's future.
The creator of Terraria, Andrew ‘Redigit’ Spinks, recently made a humorous remark suggesting that the long-awaited 1.4.5 update may not truly be the last for the immensely popular game. He stated, “Terraria will never die as long as there is one last final update.”
In the realm of updates, Terraria has seen its so-called ‘final update’ phase multiple times. Initially, the last major update titled Journey’s End was released in May 2020, but a subsequent update came afterward. The latest patch, expected to launch in 2023, has now been prioritized for a 2025 release.
Without a set release date, Spinks emphasized the studio’s commitment to delivering a high-quality experience: “We are sure that will not be welcome news for many—but we remain committed to being a quality-first studio.”
Update History
The Labor of Love update was released in 2022, after a series of previous confirmations of finality. In Spinks’s view, achieving the perfect game is a mix of persistence and unexpected surprises. His ultimate goal? Achieving a form of immortality within the game’s universe by uploading his consciousness—a tongue-in-cheek aspiration.
Despite the ongoing uncertainty, the enthusiasm surrounding Terraria remains strong as it continues to attract a dedicated player base, keeping the spirit of adventure alive even years post-launch.
