Fans of the video game will recognize the stalker variant of infected being introduced in this season, along with the return of spores, which were notably absent in the show’s first season. In a 2023 discussion, Druckmann explained the rationale behind this omission, emphasizing the desire for a more relatable depiction of survival without characters constantly donning gas masks.
“If we wanted to treat it realistically, and there are spores near, characters would wear gas masks all the time… We lose so much of what’s going on inside behind their eyes, in their souls,” Druckmann mentioned.
The trailer also features a scene hinting at the consequences of decisions made in Season 1, leading to a poignant question, “Don’t you know what he did?” That tension sets the stage for the dramatic return of significant characters, including beloved actor Joe Pantoliano portraying Eugene.
Release Date: The Last of Us Season 2 kicks off on April 13, exclusively on Max.
