Rebellion’s Jason Kingsley Discusses the Potential for Evil Genius 3

Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley expresses fondness for the Evil Genius franchise while pondering its future in game design.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the villain simulator Evil Genius, a spiritual successor to the Dungeon Keeper series that amped up the charm and packed in more spy clichés than you could shake a vodka martini at.

The original game was released in 2004, followed by a Facebook spin-off, then the mobile title Evil Genius: Online, and finally a surprise sequel, Evil Genius 2: World Domination, which launched in 2021. Our review stated that when it “is on form, it’s one of the best management games out there.”

Recently, Josh Wolens had the opportunity to discuss with Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley about their latest title, Atomfall. However, he managed to sneak in an essential question: Can you please announce Evil Genius 3?

“I won’t be announcing it,” laughs Kingsley, “but yeah, Evil Genius is one of those brands that I have a soft spot for…”

(Translation: “I won’t be announcing it, but I do have a fondness for the brand…”)

Kingsley mentioned that the concept of simulation games with emergent properties is very much a part of their focus and they have several ideas percolating. While no projects are currently underway, possibilities are circulating within the studio, and he hopes to explore new genres.

This suggests that while fans may have to wait for the next installment, conversations about its potential have already begun.
