Parents File Lawsuit Against Epic Over Fortnite's Misleading Timers

A legal case has emerged against Epic Games, alleging that their item shop timers create a deceptive sense of urgency.

Parents in the United States are taking legal action against Epic Games over their Fortnite item shop’s countdown timers, which they claim are misleading. The lawsuit argues that these timers create a false sense of “FOMO” (fear of missing out).

Many of the items advertised in the shop have countdowns suggesting limited offers, yet the lawsuit states they often remain available for prolonged periods, undercutting the urgency these timers imply. The complaint further states:

This was an unlawful scheme. Fake sales with made-up expiration times are deceptive and illegal under state statutes prohibiting unfair trade practices.

The case aims to become a class-action suit, potentially encompassing a wide range of Fortnite players affected by these practices.
