Nvidia has categorically dismissed allegations that its upcoming RTX 50 series laptop GPUs are facing the same missing ROPs issue as seen with several desktop graphic cards. Reports surfaced earlier from a German tech website, suggesting that Nvidia had asked laptop manufacturers to verify the ROP count of their produced units.
What are ROPs? ROPs or Render Output Units are crucial for a GPU as their count influences performance directly. Some analyses indicated that defects could lead to up to 10% performance loss in 3D tasks. However, Nvidia’s Public Relations Director Ben Berraondo stated unequivocally, “nope” when asked if the laptop GPUs were affected.
Despite claims from various sources about potential delays in launching the RTX 50 laptops, Nvidia reassures that there should be no hindrance in their scheduled rollout. They also categorically deny any knowledge of dispatching GPUs with missing ROPs, asserting their commitment to delivering fully functional products.
