Summary
- WoW Classic’s Season of Discovery won’t end in Phase 7, according to senior game producer Josh “Aggrend” Greenfield.
- Developers wish to avoid a definitive end date, allowing players to enjoy content for months or even years.
- Season of Discovery will persist without a firm conclusion, maintaining server availability as long as WoW Classic exists.
World of Warcraft Classic recently announced that the Season of Discovery will extend beyond Phase 7 and might not conclude with Phase 8 either. Although development on the Season of Discovery will eventually cease, the experimental Classic servers will remain available indefinitely for players.
During the Warcraft Direct presentation in November 2024, it was indicated that Phase 7 of the experimental realms would be the final phase. However, little information has circulated regarding the future of Season of Discovery, leading to uncertainty among players.
The reversal of Phase 7 being its finality exemplifies why World of Warcraft Classic aims to provide minimal insights on future plans ahead of time, as this may lead to false expectations among players. “The reality is, we expect many months of content in SoD,” Greenfield stated, emphasizing that marking a firm end date could dissuade fans.
According to Greenfield, even though active development on new extensive content for SoD may stop, the servers will not close. Other seasonal experiments or potentially Classic+ may occur, but he assured that Season of Discovery realms would remain available in some form, stating, “it’s never too late to start, and the feedback we can gather from SoD will enhance what we create next.”
