Rockstar Acquires Video Games Deluxe to Enhance Future Projects
Rockstar Games has taken over the Australian studio Video Games Deluxe, focusing on enriching their game offerings, including the acclaimed Grand Theft Auto series.
Rockstar Games has announced the acquisition of Video Games Deluxe, a studio based in Sydney that has been a partner for several years. The company is set to be renamed Rockstar Australia.
Video Games Deluxe was founded by Brendan McNamara, known for his leadership at Team Bondi, which famously developed LA Noire amidst controversy regarding working conditions. This studio has been working closely with Rockstar on various projects since its establishment in 2013, focusing primarily on Rockstar titles such as the recent re-release of LA Noire and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy–The Definitive Edition.
Rockstar’s Jennifer Kolbe stated, “After working together closely over many years, we are excited to have Video Games Deluxe join the team as Rockstar Australia.” In response, Brendan McNamara expressed, “It’s been an honor to work closely with Rockstar Games this past decade. We are thrilled to be a part of Rockstar Games and to continue our efforts to make the best games possible.”
The announcement also revealed that the Grand Theft Auto franchise has achieved remarkable sales, exceeding 440 million copies worldwide. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, emphasized their commitment to excellence with his quote: “We’re seeking perfection” as they prepare for the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 later this year.
