BioWare Co-Founder Expresses Regret Over Jade Empire Release Timing
A BioWare co-founder shares insights on the missed opportunity concerning the release of Jade Empire for Xbox.
BioWare co-founder Greg Zeschuk recently expressed a significant regret about the release of Jade Empire on the original Xbox, stating that it hurt the game’s potential success due to the timing at the end of the console’s lifecycle.
Jade Empire, which blends action and RPG gameplay, was originally launched in 2005, and many fans feel it deserved a sequel due to its unique take on Chinese mythology. In a recent podcast interview, Zeschuk remarked:
“Microsoft was like ’no no, you should release it now, right at the end of the cycle, because it’s a great time’… it was the worst advice.”
Had the game launched with the Xbox 360, Zeschuk believes it could have attracted a larger following, increasing its chances for a successful sequel. Fans continue to hope for a Jade Empire sequel despite ongoing developments at BioWare focusing on Mass Effect.
