Inzoi Director Transitioning from MMOs to Life Sims Inspired by Son

Hyungjun Kim shares the emotional reasons behind his shift from developing MMORPGs to creating life simulation games.

Hyungjun Kim reflects on his transition to life simulation games, which he attributes to the sentimental connection he shares with his son. Kim has spent over two decades developing MMORPGs but is now venturing into an unfamiliar yet intriguing genre. In a recent interview, he stated,

“Developing a life sim game has been an entirely new frontier and a significant challenge for me, given my 20+ years developing MMORPGs.”

Translation: Developing a life sim game has been a new challenge for me, considering my extensive background in MMORPGs.

Kim revealed that his son inspired him to explore this genre after they enjoyed similar games together. He expressed,

“One day, my son asked me why there aren’t more games like the ones we enjoyed together. That made me realize the need for something new in this genre—something that fans like us could cherish and enjoy for years to come.”

Translation: One day, my son asked why there weren’t more games like the ones we played together, which led me to see the need for something new that fans could appreciate for years.

Despite his new venture, Kim is leveraging his prior experience in creating expansive worlds for MMORPGs to craft the game. He claims that many skills are transferable, allowing him to successfully tackle the life sims genre. As he continues on this journey, Kim remains optimistic, viewing the challenges as both rewarding and fulfilling.
