Desire for a New Pillars of Eternity Tactics Game at Obsidian
Obsidian's design director discusses the hopes for a new tactics game in the Pillars of Eternity universe, alongside the financial challenges involved.
In a recent discussion about the Pillars of Eternity Tactics game, Obsidian’s design director, Josh Sawyer, expressed enthusiasm for the idea. He noted that there is significant interest within the studio for such a project. Sawyer mentioned the challenges of budget and scope that come with developing a tactics game, emphasizing that the market for this genre, while passionate, isn’t enormous.
“Pillars: Tactics is a thing that a lot of people would like, a lot of people at the studio would like to work on; there are a lot of people that like tactics games,” said Sawyer.
Translation: “Pillars: Tactics es algo que a muchas personas les gustaría, a muchas personas en el estudio les gustaría trabajar en él; hay muchas personas que les gustan los juegos de tácticas.”
Sawyer indicated that while a decent tactics game would draw in its dedicated fanbase, the sales may not justify a huge budget, especially in comparison to more commercially successful titles. Despite the discussions around budget, there is hope for a future project set in the Pillars universe, with Sawyer reflecting on the positive reception of the newly released Avowed.
