Rebellion’s upcoming game Atomfall is already drawing strong comparisons to Stalker, set in a post-nuclear disaster world. According to lead designer Ben Fisher, the game is introducing some innovative features that challenge traditional gameplay mechanics.
Fisher stated, “We took the creative pillars we were aiming for and just ran with them, so there’s some experimental stuff you wouldn’t try somewhere else because you can’t guarantee a result.”
This includes hidden events that could dramatically alter the game world, where players can trigger or entirely miss pivotal moments that affect enemy populations. Fisher expressed optimism about the reception of these choices, saying, “It might work, it might not… I’m looking forward to finding out.”
The creative process resembles those envisioned for Dying Light 2, where player decisions significantly influenced the gameplay environment. Fisher aims for Atomfall to feel like a more challenging, open-ended experience, encouraging players to explore like detectives instead of following linear quests.
Fisher’s insights and earlier experiences with the game have been met positively, indicating a potentially exciting launch on March 27.
