A New Board Game Inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey Set to Release
A new board game based on the classic film 2001: A Space Odyssey will allow players to experience a unique gameplay where one player assumes the role of HAL 9000.
Take your turn, HAL.
Much-loved Stanley Kubrick film 2001: A Space Odyssey is getting a new tie-in board game where one player, as HAL 9000, tries to kill everyone else while they scramble around a spaceship trying to turn off their malfunctioning AI. It’s perhaps the third most famous aspect of 2001, right behind monkeys fighting and the philosophical debates surrounding Arthur C. Clarke’s novel.
In this 3-5 player, 30-minute game, HAL aims to sabotage life support systems while players work cooperatively to input logic sequences to disable HAL’s core. Each character will have unique abilities, and HAL will have multiple turns, not playing fair, as described by the publisher.
It’s designed by Phil Walker-Harding, known for creating popular games like Sushi Go and Barenpark.
This game will be published by Maestro Media, also known for successful board games, including The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls.
The game will be released on June 20.
