Steven Spielberg's New UFO-Themed Film Reveals Release Date Without a Title

The forthcoming movie from Spielberg, known for his previous UFO-related projects, has a June 2026 release date but remains untitled.

It’s a strange aspect of Hollywood that films often secure a release date before even being named, completed, or sometimes even scripted. Major studios rush to claim these dates before anyone else can.

In this instance, Steven Spielberg’s upcoming project, which features a cast including Emily Blunt and Colin Firth, is still unnamed (IMDB refers to it as “Untitled Steven Spielberg Amblin Universal Event Film”). However, the film is slated for release on June 12, 2026, pushed back from its original date of May 15, 2026.

According to Variety, the plot appears to be linked to UFOs, being penned by David Koepp, who has previously collaborated with Spielberg on War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. There’s hope that this endeavor will resonate more closely with Spielberg’s iconic works like Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial.

Spielberg’s longstanding relationship with gaming includes contributions to the design of LucasArts’ adventure game The Dig in the 1990s and the creation of Medal of Honor with Electronic Arts in the early 2000s. However, his gaming ventures haven’t always been successful—his 1996 title Director’s Chair faced criticism, and Ready Player One (2018) was regarded as a mixed bag as well, including its UFO references.

Here’s hoping this UFO-centric film indicates a shift back to Spielberg’s blockbuster era, moving away from the introspective dramas he seems to favor lately. No offense to The Fabelmans, but many fans eagerly await another epic involving flying saucers!
