Magic: The Gathering Introduces New Fishing Minigame with Final Fantasy Set

The latest update to Magic: The Gathering includes a fishing minigame inspired by Final Fantasy, alongside new cards and mechanics.

The upcoming Final Fantasy-themed set for Magic: The Gathering introduces a unique fishing minigame alongside new summons and cards that change forms.

Details of the Update

The set adapts characters into double-faced cards, allowing players to experience iconic transformations. For example, Cecil, Dark Knight evolves into Cecil, Redeemed Paladin.

Additionally, the new fishing mechanic allows players to ‘fish’ cards during gameplay. For instance:

“Sidequest: Catch a Fish” lets players draw from their deck each turn with additional benefits if they draw an artifact or creature.

Moreover, summons are integrated in a distinct way, providing various effects that align with both Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy mechanics. Wizards of the Coast has indicated that this crossover has been in development for four years, featuring cards from 16 mainline Final Fantasy titles.

Release Information

The set is set to launch on June 13 and will include preconstructed Commander decks featuring notable characters from the series.
