Firaxis has announced that Civilization 7 has been verified for Steam Deck ahead of its launch on February 11. This marks the first title in the series to receive this full approval on Valve’s popular Linux-based handheld.
While Civilization 5 and Civilization 6 are playable on the Steam Deck, users have encountered issues with text legibility on the device’s small screen and must manually access the on-screen keyboard for some functions. Despite these challenges, the graphical capabilities of Civ 7 are well-suited for the Steam Deck, which has minimal system requirements:
Minimum Requirements
- OS: Win 10 64 Bit
- Processor: Intel i5-4690 / Intel i3-10100 / AMD Ryzen 3 1200
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 1050 / AMD RX 460 / Intel Arc A380
- DirectX: Version 12
- Storage: 20 GB available space
Recommended Requirements
- OS: Win 10 64 Bit
- Processor: Intel Core i5-10400 / AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA RTX 2060 / AMD RX 6600 / Intel Arc A750
- DirectX: Version 12
- Storage: 20 GB available space
The development effort to ensure that Civ 7 operates smoothly on the Steam Deck was likely minimal. The franchise’s slower pace of play makes it easier to transition from mouse and keyboard controls to a handheld format. Civilization 7’s upcoming features, combined with its portability, could enable players to finish their games more easily than ever.
