A Game of Solitude: Embracing Loneliness in Endless Dark

Explore the existential horror of Endless Dark, where players navigate through profound isolation aboard a dormant space colony.

Need something to match your winter blues, friends in the northern hemisphere? Well, I have the perfect game for you!

Endless Dark is “an existential horror game in which you are tasked with keeping a sleeper colony ship intact. No enemies or NPCs share the ship with you - only the creaking metal echoes and endless darkness.”

In this game, you assume the role of a robot intelligence known as The Custodian, a fully self-aware machine responsible for maintaining a traveling colony ship filled with sleeping passengers heading to a new planet. You’re the only awake entity, entirely alone, facing decades of profound solitude and isolation.

To win, keep your passengers alive; failing into a state of depression, or “robo-dementia,” means you lose. It’s a straightforward concept with a hefty narrative—about 350,000 words detailing crises and challenges to manage. Each attempt may end in failure, but it’s designed to unveil new storylines or perspectives as you progress.

Of course, your robot can also personalize its chassis and ponder into the vast emptiness of space.

Endless Dark supports various play styles, including mouse and keyboard, keyboard only, or gamepad.

You can purchase Endless Dark on Steam for $8.
