PlayStation to Close Bluepoint Games, the Studio Behind Iconic Remakes
Bluepoint Games, known for its remakes of classic titles, will cease operations in March 2026, leaving many fans stunned.
PlayStation is set to shut down Bluepoint Games in March 2026, the studio credited with successful remakes such as Shadow of the Colossus (2018) and Demon’s Souls (2020). Bluepoint Games started as an independent studio in 2006 and was acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment in 2021, just before celebrating its 5th anniversary under PlayStation.
Over the years, Bluepoint has significantly contributed to beloved titles and supported major releases like God of War Ragnarok, Titanfall, and Flower. The studio’s portfolio includes many classic collections and remasters such as Blast Factor, God of War Collection, and Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.
Reportedly, this closure will affect about 70 employees as PlayStation made the decision after a recent business review. A spokesperson for PlayStation stated:
“Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team, and their technical expertise has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community. We thank them for their passion, creativity, and craftsmanship.”
Following the success of Demon’s Souls, Bluepoint was engaged to assist Santa Monica Studio on God of War Ragnarok; shortly after, the studio was designated to develop a live-service God of War game as part of Sony’s push into the live-service domain. Unfortunately, those plans have now been scrapped.
In hindsight, many fans express disappointment that a studio renowned for its mastery in remaking classics like Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus has had its future curtailed following the recent shift towards live-service titles. This unfortunate turn of events not only highlights the vulnerability of even the most respected studios but serves as a warning that no developer is immune to the industry’s ever-evolving landscape.
