New February 2026 Update for Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Nintendo has rolled out an update for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, introducing new language support and gameplay enhancements.

Nintendo has just released a noteworthy update for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 platforms. This update was formally announced back in 2013, but the game itself launched in 2017 after a lengthy development phase that saw it initially slated for the Wii U before being adapted for the newer console.

Since its debut, Breath of the Wild has not only set a new standard within its series but also earned its place as one of the most critically acclaimed games of its time. This title has drastically redefined its genre with innovative world design and extensive player autonomy. The game even spawned a direct sequel, Tears of the Kingdom, in 2023 that, like its predecessor, also received a special edition for the Switch 2.

The recently released Version 1.9.0 update includes support for the Thai language in the game, allowing players to switch to the “Thai/English” option through the system menu. However, it’s important to note that audio support does not extend to the Thai language. Choosing the “Match System Settings” option within the game will default the audio back to English.

In addition to the new language support, this update promises several enhancements for both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions, although Nintendo has not specified the exact nature of these gameplay improvements. The franchise isn’t merely resting on its laurels; Tears of the Kingdom also received its Version 1.4.3 update with some vague improvements and a fix for a bug related to the Black Hinox enemy in Hyrule Castle.

As the series approaches its 40th anniversary in 2026, fans are left speculating whether more content is on the way, reminiscent of the celebrations surrounding the 40th anniversary of the Super Mario franchise. This update may serve as a bridge before potential major announcements at a future Nintendo Direct event this summer.

Patch Notes for Version 1.9.0

  • New Language Support: Added Thai language; text can be changed to Thai through system settings, though audio remains in English unless manually adjusted.
  • Gameplay Improvements: General enhancements made for both Switch models, though specifics are unclear.

For more details, see the full patch note documentation on the Nintendo website.
