In the upcoming open-world action-adventure game Crimson Desert, developed by the creators of Black Desert, players won’t have the opportunity to play malevolent characters. During a conversation on the podcast Dropped Frames, Will Powers, the Marketing Director, stated that the game won’t allow players to pursue evil playthroughs.
“The choices aren’t that grand but it does give you the ability to have those decisions impact and have it be a choice you want to make”.
Translation: While the game presents choices, they aren’t extensive enough to justify a full evil playthrough.
Powers added, “Would I recommend a full playthrough in that playstyle? Eh, I don’t know.” Players will primarily be positioned as the ‘good guys’ within the narrative, limiting the scope for darker character development.
Crimson Desert promises expansive gameplay mechanics typical of RPGs but is not officially classified as one, emphasizing direct engagement with the world around the player instead of traditional RPG factions.
