Mewgenics Achieves 1 Million Sales in Just One Week, Surprising Its Creators

Mewgenics, the peculiar cat-breeding simulator, has surpassed one million copies sold within its first week of release, leaving its developers astonished.

One week after its launch, the unique cat-breeding game Mewgenics has unexpectedly sold over 1 million copies.

The announcement came from co-creator Tyler Glaiel on X, where he shared a straightforward message illustrating this achievement, supposedly created by a fan artist named Whom.

Edmund McMillen, the other co-creator, also retweeted Glaiel’s post.

Despite the game’s success, Glaiel mentioned in a follow-up post that they were caught off guard by the rapid sales, commenting on the significant wishlists leading up to the release and the flat sales typically seen after launches compared to wishlist metrics. He stated, “We both got a bit blindsided by this haha.”

Players seem to enjoy Mewgenics, with controversies surrounding some elements of the game’s voice cast not hampering its performance, evidenced by Steam metrics that show a peak of over 115,000 concurrent players.

Looking ahead, Glaiel indicated that language support for simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Russian is in development. Additionally, McMillen mentioned that console versions are also underway, along with planned DLC but not immediate patches that would change the game’s balance.

Glaiel warned players to not expect major adjustments in the first patch, focusing instead on minor fixes. “First patch will be mostly minor bugfixes + some easy little things that are unlikely to cause other issues,” he said. “Expected towards the end of the week now.”
