It is often claimed by executives in the AI industry that the general public is slow to adapt to AI technologies due to not fully understanding them. However, a recent report from the consumer research group Circana indicates that this isn’t the case. Among the consumers who are against having AI on their devices, nearly two-thirds state that their current devices function perfectly well without the need for AI.
Additionally, 59% of those opposing AI highlighted privacy concerns as a significant factor, while 43% expressed disinterest in spending extra on AI technologies for their devices, mainly smartphones. Conducted surveys show that only 15% of participants cited complexity as a reason to avoid AI devices.
This data challenges the notion that consumers are rejecting AI due to insufficient explanations. Instead, it appears that most individuals who are against AI are familiar enough with their technologies and wary of the extensive monitoring by tech oligarchs.
