Valve's Pricing and Release Dates for Steam Products Complicated by Memory Shortages

Valve updates on the Steam Machine and related products hindered by memory and storage shortages, impacting their pricing and release timeline.

Valve has reiterated its commitment to launching the Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller in the first half of 2026. However, the specifics surrounding their pricing and dates have become more complex due to the ongoing memory and storage shortages, famously dubbed the ‘RAMpocalypse’.

“When we announced these products in November, we planned on being able to share specific pricing and launch dates by now,” Valve mentions in a recently published FAQ regarding its upcoming hardware. The company noted that significant increases in the availability and pricing of essential components necessitate a reassessment of their shipping schedule.

As detailed in PC Gamer’s thorough examination of the memory crisis, the demand from AI servers has severely inflated RAM and SSD prices, impacting anyone trying to build a gaming PC, including large corporations like Valve.

Valve’s objective to ship all three products within the first half of the year remains intact. Nevertheless, they acknowledge that work is required to finalize concrete pricing and launch dates responsive to the evolving circumstances of the market. Valve aims to keep consumers updated as these plans are finalized.
