Owners of Reddit Collectible Avatar NFTs have until the end of December to transfer their Vaults to a new wallet, or they will be irrevocably lost.
Remember NFTs? In a 2021 report, Reddit claimed they were ‘here to stay’ before launching their NFT marketplace that allowed users to earn or buy personalized avatars. However, Reddit announced in August that the NFT program would end, giving owners until January 1, 2026, to export their ‘Vault’ to an external wallet.
Failure to do so will mean owners can neither transfer nor sell their Collectible Avatars and will lose access to their corresponding blockchain wallet.

With only a month left, Reddit has issued a reminder about the impending deadline. Users can still save images through a simple right-click, but the NFTs themselves will become unreachable— “Another broken victim of humanity’s relentless, unthinking, and fundamentally cruel drive for profit, heedless of the long-term cost to our souls.”
As the clock ticks down, it raises questions about the value and longevity of NFTs, especially as recent reports indicate that 96% of NFTs are considered inactive as of 2024.
