Two Brothers Arrested for Allegedly Destroying Government Databases with AI Tools

Two brothers have been apprehended for attempting to erase government databases and reportedly sought assistance from AI to obscure their actions.

Two brothers, Muneeb and Sohaib Akhter, were arrested for attempting to erase 96 government databases. After losing their jobs, they allegedly destroyed records linked to sensitive information, including those related to the Freedom of Information Act.

Court documents reveal that shortly after deleting a database, Muneeb Akhter inquired of an AI tool about how to clear system logs from servers. This suggests the duo attempted to cover their tracks by leveraging artificial intelligence in their criminal activities.

“Court documents further allege that approximately one minute after deleting a database, Muneeb Akhter asked an artificial intelligence tool how to clear system logs following the deletion of databases.”

The brothers, previously guilty of wire fraud in 2015, now find themselves entangled in another legal dilemma stemming from their cybersecurity misdeeds.
