Cloudflare Reports 1.7x Increase in DDoS Attacks Compared to Last Year

Cloudflare reveals a significant rise in DDoS attacks, highlighting concerning trends in cybersecurity.

DDoS attacks are on the rise, according to recent statistics released by Cloudflare. The company reported a staggering 170% increase in DDoS assaults this year, totaling 36.2 million attacks in 2025, compared to 2024. In the third quarter alone, an average of 3,780 attacks were mitigated every hour, approximately one DDoS attack every second.

The surge in frequency has been attributed to hyper-volumetric attacks, a troubling trend in the world of cybersecurity. “The number and scale of these attacks seem to be exponentially increasing,” stressed a representative from Cloudflare. In the months leading up to September 2025, several record-breaking attacks targeted major services, stressing the need for robust defense systems.

While not all DDoS attacks are impactful, the data demonstrates a significant trend that raises alarms about the state of cybersecurity across the globe. As organizations grapple with this evolving threat landscape, the urgency for more sophisticated defensive technologies becomes apparent.
