Voice Actor for Baldur's Gate 3: An Unexpected Divide in Game Development

Samantha Béart discusses the disparities between player appreciation for voice actors and how they are perceived in the game development industry.

A noticeable gap exists between how voice actors are valued in the game industry and how fans perceive their contributions. In an interview, Samantha Béart, the voice behind Karlach in Baldur’s Gate 3, expressed concern about this disparity, stating:

“There’s a weird disconnect between, maybe, developers’ attitude towards where we fit in the ecosystem—where we’re not actually part of the team—versus the players, who very much see us as the forefront. More like film and TV.”

This discussion highlights the importance of recognizing voice actors as integral members of the creative process, not merely outsourcing resources. Béart pointed out that while studios may see voice acting as secondary, players often appreciate the emotional depth added by these artists.

The dialogue continues, emphasizing the need for better integration of voice talent within gaming studios, promoting respect and recognition for their vital roles.
