What Lies Ahead for Team Cherry After Almost Three Months of Silksong's Release?

Team Cherry may explore new game ideas beyond the Hollow Knight franchise, despite fans' anticipation for a sequel.

Team Cherry, creators of Hollow Knight: Silksong, may be setting their sights on new concepts beyond the franchise. The Australian studio, known for its impactful yet concise game releases, is contemplating ventures outside its famed universe. Although fans are eager for further installments in the Hollow Knight storyline, insights suggest that the team’s next project could diverge significantly.

There was a considerable gap of eight years between the original Hollow Knight and its sequel, suggesting a similarly lengthy wait for the next major title. Even so, speculation among the community about potential directions for future games continues to thrive.

Future Directions for Team Cherry

In a discussion with Bloomberg, co-founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen shared their desire to explore ideas beyond the Hollow Knight realm. Gibson emphasized that while the team is currently developing content for Silksong, they do not want to be pigeonholed as solely the creators of the Hollow Knight series. They hinted at concepts for different games without disclosing detailed plans, likely maintaining their tradition of keeping fans in the dark until closer to release.

A Blend of Familiarity and Innovation

Even if they commence projects outside of Hollow Knight, Gibson indicated that familiar gameplay elements such as expansive worlds and challenging bosses would persist in future games. Still, the studio is open to experimenting with new themes and genres, suggesting exciting developments may be on the horizon.

It remains to be seen how Team Cherry will balance its ongoing love for the Hollow Knight franchise with these new explorations, but fans can expect an ever-evolving journey ahead.
