Surprise, many users are still not rushing to upgrade to Windows 11, says Dell

Dell has indicated that the transition from Windows 10 to Windows 11 is not progressing as quickly as anticipated.

Dell recently reported that the shift from Windows 10 to Windows 11 is progressing at a slower pace than expected.

“We have not completed the Windows 11 transition,” Jeffrey Clarke stated during the latest earnings call.
“In fact, if you were to look at it relative to the previous OS in service, we are 10-12 points behind where we were with Windows 10.”

It was only in July 2025 that Windows 11 surpassed Windows 10 in user numbers, which in itself is notable given the previous version’s impending end of support. Factors such as hardware requirements continue to hinder the upgrade process.

Around 1.5 billion Windows devices are active worldwide, with an estimated 500 million lacking the necessary hardware to run Windows 11. Clarke highlighted that these circumstances present substantial opportunities for potential upgrades.

As prices for components remain high, the transition might take considerably longer than anticipated.
