The Exclusion of Poison Swamps in Elden Ring's Nightreign Surprises Fans

Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki's absence of beloved poison swamps in upcoming spinoff raises eyebrows.

As is well-known, Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director of Elden Ring, has a notorious affection for poison swamps, which have become a signature of FromSoftware titles, often introducing a toxic debuff that hampers players while entitling them to drag through hazardous environments. However, in the forthcoming Nightreign spinoff, this beloved feature is missing, sparking discussion among fans.

“There aren’t any,” Kitao Taidai humorously remarked during a livestream regarding the lack of poison swamps in Nightreign. “This time, the director is not Miyazaki, but Junya Ishizaki, who has been the battle director of Elden Ring, so maybe no one wanted to include it.”

This decision aligns with the game’s focus on a more dynamic combat experience rather than navigating through sluggish, poisonous terrain. It’s an unexpected twist for fans of the Souls series, who have come to expect the ramping complexity of navigating swampy hazards in their gameplay.
