This weekend’s Elden Ring Nightreign network test did not include PC players, but I found myself watching from the sidelines as the servers bore the brunt of the stress. On top of that, I attempted to install the game on my PlayStation 5 to engage with the network test, only to experience significant challenges during its first session, which lasted three hours.
Network Test Scheduling Issues
The network test for Nightreign is quite unconventional; instead of running continuously like most games, it features sporadic three-hour periods until February 17. The first session wrapped up at 6 am PST/9 am EST/2 pm GMT, but it was plagued by server issues and access denials for many players, including myself.
Frustrations with Login and Connectivity
Numerous gamers flocked to the Elden Ring subreddit to chuckle through their frustrations as they encountered login errors. A post from FromSoftware’s support team informed players that “the game server is experiencing high traffic, making it difficult to match,” quickly followed by acknowledgments of the server’s complications.

After several attempts to log in, which hit a wall at the title screen, I was ultimately unable to join a match after several frustrating sessions. I finally conceded before 2 pm, feeling as if my session was lost.
Some Players Found Success
Although I encountered numerous hurdles, some players managed to connect successfully. There were reports on Reddit of individuals who managed to overcome the matchmaking barriers and face the network test bosses.
FromSoftware’s Response
The FromSoftware Twitter account extended an apology after the completion of the first session, mentioning a potential rerun of the test to compensate for the rampant issues players faced. They stated, “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to all players due to the game server issues. Today’s network test will end at 23:00 [Japan time] as scheduled, and we will proceed with improvement work. Your understanding and cooperation would be greatly appreciated.”
