CD Projekt Takes Inspiration from Baldur's Gate 3 but Sticks with Its Core Style

CD Projekt's joint CEO discusses how Baldur's Gate 3 influenced their approach, emphasizing their commitment to innovation in world-building.

CD Projekt Red (CDPR) continues to explore its identity in game development, emphasizing its commitment to open-world gameplay despite the trend set by Baldur’s Gate 3.

When asked about the influence of Baldur’s Gate 3, CD Projekt’s joint CEO Michał Nowakowski acknowledged its innovative storytelling yet asserted, “We are definitely not going to make a game like Larian did.” This highlights their intent to innovate while remaining true to their roots established by titles such as The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.

Nowakowski described the distinction: “There was a lot of inspiration in what Baldur’s Gate 3 did, but we want to do more than just replicate our past successes with better graphics.”

He also indicated that while CD Projekt has branched out with projects like Gwent, the focus remains on core titles that define the brand. As the gaming landscape evolves, many in the community are eager to see the next ambitious open-world project emerge from CDPR.
